The Heart of Compassion: Lojong and 1000-Armed Chenrezig Practice

“Compassion is not just a feeling. It is a state of mind, an attitude that is developed through training, and the more we develop it, the more we can help others.” – Lama Zopa Rinpoche

Lojong or “mind training” is an essential part of Buddhist training that teaches us how to transform problems into opportunities for deep spiritual growth. It helps us:

  • Cultivate mental resilience
  • Develop compassion
  • Shift focus from external blame to self-reflection and accountability
  • Reduce anxiety, increase inner peace, and develop healthier behavior overall.

This weekend will be a thorough exploration of the profound Lojong (mind training) text, The Eight Verses of Mind Transformation, written by the Tibetan Buddhist master Geshe Langri Tangpa along with a practice of the 1000-Armed Chenrezig, the Buddha of Infinite Compassion. Both visualization as well as mantra recitation will be included. His Holiness the Dalai Lama is said to be an emanation of this form of Chenrezig and it’s a particularly powerful practice to do in these challenging times.

Ven. Amy will help us expand our world view and will also help us develop a greater sense of compassion for ourselves and others. This weekend is also a great supplement to the Lojong course she’ll be leading on Tuesdays in April and May.

This weekend includes lodging at our retreat center and wonderful vegetarian meals.
